One of the barriers preventing people from getting involved in state and local politics is that it's often too confusing. Understanding the dynamics of party politics, the structure of government and all the issues often defeats the patience of even the most dedicated activist.
At Blue Jersey, we decided that the best way to try to solve this problem is through an accessible and easy to understand guide in the mold of the "for Dummies" book series. We call it: New Jersey Politics 101
The guide contains three main sections -
Government & Politics,
Issues and
Important Names in NJ politics. We tried to keep each section as short as possible so as to not be overwhelming to the reader. We borrowed lots of information from several existing wikis (including the
dKosopedia), but decided against making this project a wiki for fear that it would become too large and intimidating and defeat the original purpose of the project.
It is intended to be updated regularly with current information. If you have comments, corrections, suggestions, updates or would like to contribute content for this guide, send us an email or leave a comment below.
We're always looking for ways to make politics more accessible, so we'd love to hear the suggestions of the dailykos community for how we can reach more people and increase political participation.
